Denied vs. no offer: two different situations
Toast treats these separately. No offer means the dashboard is not showing a pre-qualified amount, so you were never able to apply. Denied means you had an offer, applied, and the application did not pass credit approval. Toast says approval is at the discretion of the lender, WebBank.
If you never saw an offer, read No Toast Capital offer? What restaurant owners can do instead. The steps below are for a real denial.
Reasons Toast lists as factors
We cannot know why your application was declined. Only your notice and Toast can tell you. Toast's eligibility page names factors it looks at, including:
- History of business closure
- Ownership verification status
- Active bankruptcy filings
- Business type (some types are not supported yet)
- Card processing volume through Toast, including card payments on 3 of the last 7 days
An open merchant cash advance that pledges your card receivables also blocks a Toast Capital Loan until it is paid off. Toast's FAQ says so directly.
What to do in the next 48 hours
- Save the denial notice and any reason it gives. Ask Toast support if anything is unclear.
- Check ownership details on file with Toast. Mismatched ownership is a fixable issue.
- List every current advance or loan: balance, payment, frequency and whether it holds a lien on card receivables.
- Pull 3 months of business bank statements, plus month-to-date. Outside funders read deposits, not your Toast dashboard.
- Decide the real number: the smallest amount that solves the problem and the date you need it by.
How an outside review is different
Toast Capital sizes loans mainly on card volume processed through Toast. An independent review looks at all deposits: card settlements, cash, catering and delivery payouts. It also looks at time in business, current obligations and credit. ToastFunding works with restaurants from $25,000 to $5,000,000, considers credit from 500, and generally looks for 6+ months open and $10,000+ a month in revenue.
That is not a promise of approval. If your statements show heavy negative days or several open advances, the honest answer may be to wait or to consolidate rather than add funding.

Will another funder see my Toast Capital denial?
Not directly. Outside funders review your application, bank statements and credit. Be ready to explain any open balances or recent declines honestly.
